Ph.D. Student in Earth System Science

Ian Harryman

Ian is a Ph.D. student in Earth System Science, working on the intersection of livelihoods and infectious disease. For his dissertation, Ian is investigating the relationship between social network structure, respiratory virus infection, and environmental change among the Shodagor, a semi-nomadic group of traditionally boat-dwelling fishers and traders in Bangladesh. Ian has a wide range of previous field experience, having worked in South Africa, Namibia, Peru, Madagascar, and Sierra Leone.

Prior to starting his Ph.D. at Stanford, Ian received a B.A. in Anthropology from the University of Colorado and an M.Phil. in Social Anthropology from the University of Cambridge.
